Worker taken to hospital after being rescued from collapsed Torre dei Conti, which was undergoing restoration works

A worker who became trapped when a medieval tower in Rome partly collapsed has been rescued, city authorities said.

The man was injured and taken to hospital. Rome’s mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, said: “We hope that he will pull through.” The Rome prefect, Lamberto Giannini, told reporters the man was pulled from the rubble after “a long rescue mission”.
